The mathematics
FCAT includes information related to other Sunshine State Standards
content areas including the arts, social studies, science, foreign
language, health and physical education. Students are asked to solve
problems that incorporate actual real-world situations and numerical
values, such as the distance between two locations and the average time
it takes a car to travel a specific distance.
The mathematics
FCAT is based upon individual Sunshine State Standard benchmarks and is
reported in five content strands:
-
Strand A - Number
Sense, Concepts, and Operations
-
Strand B -
Measurement
-
Strand C -
Geometry and Spatial Sense
-
Strand D -
Algebraic Thinking
-
Strand E - Data
Analysis and Probability
The mathematics
questions can involve four different types of responses: Multiple Choice
(MC), Gridded Response (GR), Short Response (SR), and Extended Response
(ER).
The questions range
from quick and easy to long and challenging. Approximately 15% of the
questions on grades 5, 8, and 10 FCAT require students to show their
work, something that is usually not seen on a standardized test.
